Clarinetista peruano

Thelema TrioDuring March and and April 2008 I will be touring for the third time in the USA with Thelema Trio. This time, we have schedule the recording of our second full CD before our tour.

The CD will include pieces from the American continent - from Canada to Argentina - and my piece "Imprevisto" for clarinet solo will be featured in this new recording. All the music has been written specially for Thelema Trio, and we will be in the studio of the University of Central Missouri for two days, recording live each piece.

We will also spend some time with the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee's composition students, where "Thelema Trio presents a concert of premieres by advanced composition students from the Peck School of the Arts". We have received very interesting music which we are looking forwards to perform.
All the details of the tour are here. This promises to be an exiting tour!

During the third week of February I will be rehearsing with the Vlaams Radio Orkest from Belgium, a very busy ensemble that dedicates concerts to contemporary music during its annual program. This orchestra was founded in 1935 and its one of the most representative in the Belgian music scene.

I have been invited to take part of the concert dedicated to the music of György Ligeti and Béla Bartok, with Stefan Asbury as guest conductor. I will play clarinet and bass clarinet in Ligeti's "Apparitions" and Bartok's "Zwei Bilder" and "Concerto for two pianos"- both composers are in my personal top favourite list, so this will be a very intense experience.

The first concert will take place at the Bijloke Concert Hall (Gent), the 21rst of February, and the second one - the 23rd February - at the Flagey Hall (Brussels). The full program and details are announced here. The first concert will be transmitted Friday 28th February in Radio Klara, and the second performance will be shown on Canvas, a Belgian television channel. What a Hungarian week that will be!

HyeKyung Lee is a very creative composer. One of her piano piece - Opposed Directions - is part of Duo DICTO's program, and I love that work.

In 2006 HyeKyung composed a wonderful duo for Thelema Trio, in which the pianist can rest for at least 8 minutes. The piece is called "Shadowing", scored for alto saxophone and clarinet. I premiered the piece with Peter Verdonck in USA, in the presence of the composer.

It occurred to me that the piece may work for two clarinets, and so I asked HyeKyung for a quick adaptation of her Shadowing - and so she did. In this way, I could also study the saxophone part and know the piece fully. I proposed to the composer to make a home made recording, and why not, a video.

After some hours recording both parts, and then filming the city of Deinze, this is the result in YouTube. This video provoked a nice article in Deinzeonline, and recently it has been featured in New York's music Blog Sequenza21.

I'm very thankful to HyeKung Lee for sharing her music, and I encourage clarinettist to perform this wonderful piece. This version for two clarinets has not been yet performed live, so...who will be the first?
